A Kosovo necklace is more than jewellery – it's a statement of who you are. Our Kosovo Collection includes necklaces, bracelets, keychains, phone cases and mirrors – all crafted from premium materials and backed by a 365-day guarantee. Whether you grew up in Pristina, Prizren, Stuttgart, Zurich or New York: this necklace connects you to your heritage. At d'origine, people from more than 40 countries show where they come from. The Kosovo Collection is one of the most popular in our range.
What Do the Six Stars on the Kosovo Flag Mean?
The flag of Kosovo shows the golden silhouette of the country's map on a blue background, with six white stars arching above it. The six stars represent Kosovo's six largest ethnic communities: Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Gorani, Roma and Bosniaks. The flag was introduced in 2008, the year Kosovo declared independence on 17 February. The blue and gold deliberately echo the European flag and express the country's European orientation. Beyond the national flag, the Albanian double-headed eagle – the Shqiponja – is the most widespread symbol among Kosovo Albanians. The eagle connects Kosovo to the broader Albanian cultural space and has been worn as a sign of Albanian identity for centuries. Legend traces it back to Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg (1405–1468), the Albanian national hero who led resistance against the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. In our Kosovo Collection, you'll find pendants featuring both the map and the eagle motif.
Kosovar Jewellery: Gold, Craft and Albanian Tradition
Gold holds an extraordinary place in Kosovar-Albanian culture. At weddings, gifting gold to the bride is one of the most important traditions – gold coins, necklaces and bangles are presented in elaborate ceremonies. This custom has remained especially alive in Kosovo and continues in the diaspora across Europe. The city of Prizren is considered the cultural heart of Kosovo: with its centuries-old artisan tradition, Ottoman bridges and mosques, and the annual Dokufest (international documentary film festival), it is a centre of Kosovar culture and identity. Fine silver and goldsmithing also has a long history in Prizren. In the diaspora, jewellery with Kosovar motifs serves a special purpose: the map or the eagle around the neck makes belonging visible – to culture, to family, to home.
Material and Quality of Our Kosovo Necklaces
Our Kosovo Collection uses different materials depending on the product. The Kosovo necklace for men is made from high-quality stainless steel with 18K gold plating – rust-proof, waterproof and scratch-resistant. The women's version is crafted from 18K gold-plated brass and hand-set with zirconia stones for an elegant, sparkling finish. Both versions are waterproof and allergy-friendly: wear them in the shower, at the gym or every day. All products come with a 365-day guarantee. Each necklace is delivered in a premium jewellery box – a perfect gift for Independence Day on 17 February, weddings or any special occasion.
Kosovo Necklace for Men and Women
Our Kosovo Collection has something for everyone. The men's necklace features a 60 cm curb chain with a bold stainless steel pendant – the map or eagle in strong relief. The women's version comes with a finer 40 cm chain (plus 5 cm extension) and a zirconia-studded pendant – elegant yet equally expressive. Both are available in silver and gold. For those who want the complete look, the Kosovo Bundle pairs a necklace with a matching bracelet at a reduced set price.
Kosovo Necklace in Silver or Gold – Which One Suits You?
Gold carries deep significance in Kosovar-Albanian culture – at weddings and family celebrations, gold jewellery has been the most meaningful gift for generations. The gold version of our Kosovo necklace honours that tradition: the 18K gold plating gives the pendant a warm, rich glow. The silver version offers a cooler, more modern look – perfect for everyday wear. Both variants are waterproof and allergy-friendly. Many customers order both colours or add the matching bracelet bundle.
More Than a Necklace: The Full Kosovo Range
Beyond necklaces, our Kosovo Collection offers a wide range of accessories. The Kosovo bracelet pairs perfectly with the necklace and works on its own or as a set. The Kosovo keychain is ideal for anyone who wants to carry their connection subtly but daily. Especially popular: the Kosovo phone case and the Kosovo mirror with map design. Every product combines Kosovar symbolism with premium material and everyday durability.
Buying a Kosovo Necklace – What to Look For
If you're looking to buy a Kosovo necklace, pay attention to three things: material, craftsmanship and chain length. For material, stainless steel and high-quality brass with 18K gold plating are the best options – far more durable than cheap fashion jewellery that tarnishes within weeks. For craftsmanship, check the pendant: the map or eagle should be cleanly engraved and the relief clearly defined. For chain length, we recommend 55 to 60 cm for men and 40 to 50 cm for women. At d'origine, you order directly from our shop – no middlemen. We ship worldwide: free shipping within Germany, free across Europe on orders over €25, and affordable international shipping to the US, Canada, UK, Australia and beyond.
How Many Kosovars Live Abroad?
The Kosovar diaspora is estimated at 800,000 to one million people worldwide – nearly as large as the population of Kosovo itself (roughly 1.8 million). Germany hosts the largest Kosovar community in Europe, with an estimated 400,000 to 500,000 people, concentrated in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia. Switzerland is home to around 200,000 Kosovars, making them one of the country's most significant diaspora groups. Austria and Sweden also have substantial Kosovar communities. The ratio of diaspora to home population makes Kosovo one of the most internationally dispersed nations in Europe. A Kosovo necklace is, for many, a daily sign of that connection – quiet, but unmistakable. At d'origine, we understand this feeling, because that's exactly why we founded the brand: jewellery that makes heritage visible.
